Everyone should read The Second Machine Age to get a sense of what new generations will experience in the years to come. While we regularly benefit from technological advances positively impacting on our lives, at the same time it is evident how technology is progressively destroying jobs that won’t return anymore. Since 2009 I came to this conclusion, but refrained from sharing my views on the relationship between technology and employment due to my role in prominent internet companies. Earlier this year Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew […]
I switched to OpenDNS, hoping to [marginally] improve my performance. Fiber in Central London is quite a chimera. Minimal improvement to address a dismal situation where BT claims 300MBps download speed and further improvements to their fiber offering. Time to migrate to Iceland?
For years, maybe decades, experts have passionately debated about TV and computer convergence. Way back in 1995, Web TV Networks created a product ultimately bought by Microsoft and rebranded MSN TV. The idea in those days was to deliver the browser experienced on a TV screen (almost certainly a CRT monitor!) using a setup box and a custom keyboard. A total failure for obvious reasons, starting from a very poor video quality. The opposite approach – video content displayed on a […]
Without any doubts, an “avalanche” of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. According to some estimates, more than 20 million units since the debut on September 18th 2014. In the UK, in store purchases are regulated thru an online reservation process, a smart solution reducing endless waits, long lines, and setting the right level of expectations among customers. This tool indirectly provides some clues on what consumers perceive as cool and trendy. Here’s what I found. In the last two weeks reserving the iPhone 6 Plus […]
At the end of the trading session on July 14th, Apple Inc. is worth over $580B. After reaching the all time record of $700 dollars per share on September 18 2012 before the 7:1 stock split, Apple has progressively moved towards the $100 target, de facto replicating its best performance ever. Apple has a 1-year low of $59.8157 and a 1-year high of $96.80. Financial firm Canaccord Genuity has raised AAPL target price from $102.00 to $112.00 in a research note issued to investors […]
FPV (First Person View) has recently gained a new meaning thanks to the introduction of drones. Check the video shot during the 4th of July celebrations in West Palm Beach, FL, (watch it in HD), and you will agree with me that a drone adds a completely new perspective to your video experience. Not cheap, drones are often related to privacy issues and safety, two ares that need to be regulated as these devices become more and more popular. So […]
16GB of RAM but only 256GB of SSD flash storage. Not a very balanced ratio, but couldn’t get a 512GB disk when needed a new Macbook. It turned out recently that I passed 1M files on my disk! Did some cleaning with limited improvement. Only after some radical decisions I was able to raise the amount of free disk space from 4GB to 40GB, a sufficiently safe percentage out of the total capacity. Then I decided to test JetDrive, an […]
The event will be live-stremed on the Apple website starting at 6:00pm, BST, tomorrow, June 2nd. Big moment for Apple’s fans, competitors and detractors as well. Lot of expectations with an endless list of rumors and speculations re to what will be presented by Tim Cook in the keynote address. iOS 8 and Mac OS X version 10.10 two certainties among lot of expectations on both the software and hardware sides. The agenda of the event hasn’t been fully disclosed, another indications that […]
Last week I had the pleasure and honor to share some of my views on upcoming, breakthrough innovations with the best audience I ever had in my entire career as a public speaker. Standing in front of 100+ millennials i shared some videos to illustrate what they could experience in the years to come. Here’s a selection of what shared and discussed thanks to dozens and dozens of smart questions.
